"Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you've never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground." ~ Judith Thurman. Richard, a good deal of your writing makes me homesick for lands I've never visited, makes me mourn for friends I've never met. That is a gift my friend, one of which I am glad of which to be a beneficiary. Well done.
Beautiful friendships in so many of your pieces. I never tire of reading the way you celebrate people you have connected with. Sorry the book didn't come to fruition but the human experience remains.
A great tribute to a good man or a good tribute to a great man. Either way, a good story that captures our feelings for you and Lucien. We're fortunate to know people like that and walk with them awhile and become better people because we had the opportunity to know them, love them and share and celebrate life, whether for a few days, a year or a lifetime. One of our fond memories of a couple and their family in Toulouse was gathered with 11 of them for an evening of paella sitting outdoors adjacent to their garden. Pascal was Spanish, Iliane was French. They were kind, generous, loving and included us in their celebration of life. Interesting how these memories are often around sharing food, breaking bread across imaginary boundaries. We would do well to do more of that!
Yes, thanks. It give me pause to reflect on some of the people we’ve met from different countries and cultures that have definitely been “food for the spirit.” This past February we met a young family in an airport on the way to Chile and later had dinner with the couple expecting their second child. He is a singer,a lovely human being whose artistry brings joy to others through music. Juan Carlos Lefort.
A very fine tribute.
Another wonderful eulogy.
Thanks, John.
I'm sure Lucien enjoys this heart-felt eulogy.
I hope you're right.

Terry, that is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about my writing. Thank you.

Thank you very much, Olivier. I am thinking of trying to see if anyone might be interested in the book.

That's why travel is so important. Simone Weil called it one of the needs of the soul.

What a lovely remembrance, especially the ending.
Thank you.
So sorry, Richard. What a marvelous man. Making the world a better place, one Bouillabaisse at a time. xo
You would have liked him, Helayne, and he, you.
