If you want to check out Jeanerette, travel on Hwy 182 (which is the “Old Spanish Trail”), past New Iberia, and 182 becomes the “main drag” through Jeanerette. That drive is into the country, along the Bayou Teche, that was the first settlement the banished Acadian people built. The so-called birthplace of Acadiana is Loreauville. The landscape along the Old Spanish Trail is lush and verdant, especially in mid to late summer, and the old oak trees are magnificent. It’s hard to keep your eyes on the road ahead, actually.
Highly recommend such a drive.
I like the premise of your podcast! I’ve wondered how you adjusted in New Orleans, as well as another friend who moved there to help “replant” the coastal marshland after Katrina. He is still there, although looking to move from “mid-city” to a more rural area these days.
Thanks, Angie! I really appreciate you reading my posts and commenting. It really means a lot. As for the podcast, I'm flying by the seat of my pants! I'm sure I'll take that drive you mention. Thanks again for stopping by! Richard
