Isaac Singer said: "I am writing in a dead language." But the uniqueness of Yiddish is that it is a spoken language of the West written in the language of Hebrew. Cagney actually lived on the upper east side and went to Saint Elizabeth's church in the 80s. Aber gut schreiben, gutmann

True about Cagney. But he was indeed born in LES. And UES was a different country back then!

movie' on up to the east side, as the song goes.....Mein grossvater was bornt on the east side...on 84 street and avenue A in 1889.....i moved back to 84street and madison in 1991........

There was an Avenue A at 84th back then? Not now. Maybe today's East End or York?

yeah in fact there is a remnant on a building along York......My grandfather said the best thing about the FDR drive was that kids couldn't go down and drown in the East River
