Part 1 was vegetarians. I wrote, with some glee, about vegetarians who come for dinner and don’t forewarn you about their uncompromising diet, so that you have to scramble to accommodate them. Today’s peeve is sharing at restaurants. I’m out to dinner with some friends. I go over the menu with great deliberation, and finally zone in, happily, on exactly what I want. Then the voice of one of my dinner companions erupts, usually quite chipper,
Always funny Richard! Thank you. I missed the one about vegetarians.
I only like sharing when on a love date, when the one you love says "would you like a bite?" because you want to breathe the air they breathe, see with their eyes, feel everything they feel. And maybe they are curious about what you are having...
Like you, the collective dishes bugs me. Especially the logistics of them. Reaching over, figuring out how to fit different things on your plate, and having to jump from completely different tastes from one bite to the next feels a bit superficial.
WOW! The Old Codger re-emerges in all his cantankerous glory. But I fully understand, appreciate, and agree!
Thank you! I always go along with it when friends suggest it, but it secretly aggravates me, especially as I always choose the best dish.
I hate sharing food too!!!!! HATE it!
You've named my secret pet peeve. I don't like sharing food. It's mine.
We’ll be sure to find you a restaurant to take you to that serves family style.
Honest, Brave, Funny, What more could a reader want?
Though I have no problem sharing, you are in excellent company. Julia Child felt the same way. https://www.nytimes.com/1999/11/10/dining/greedy-is-good-a-new-resistance-to-sharing.html
I'm with you. No sharing---unless at a Chinese restaurant, where it must be a requirement (at least with the Asian contingent of my family)
